Well, I was asleep for quite a few of those 24 hours, but that is beside the point.
So far, I am quite happy with my purchase. I've read email, browsed the web, played some games, listened to Pandora, watched an episode of the Colbert Report, did part of a crossword, updated my Vacation spreadsheet, and generally just played around.
I have some disappointment that a couple of my heavily used apps do not have an iPad version (desiccated or universal). But in those few cases, until they are updated, the full web version actually works really well (for example, Facebook & Goodreads). In other cases, at least for some of the games, the 2x scaled display does not look too bad.
The physical size of the iPad seems perfect for web browsing and the other uses I've put it to so far. The display is amazing. Last night I spent some time catching up on web comics. They looked gorgeous in the browser. That is certainly something that my iPhone could not do well. The performance of the device is also excellent. Everything is much faster and snappier than even an iPhone 3GS. I've also found the keyboard to be quite good when using two hands. by the way, I am writing this entirely on my iPad.
Drawbacks: For one, the device is quite heavy given its small packaging. Holding it up for any length of time could become quite tiring. This could be a major stumbling block for many would be adopters. The only other thing so far that I can say is not great is the fingerprints. I was quite overjoyed with the new oleoresistant display on the 3GS. Either the iPad does not have that or it is some lesser version of it. In general, it has not been too much of an issue dung use, but occasionally I'll notice a little blurriness while viewing a webpage or something. When off though, it looks like a dozen kids were touching it all over.
But again, I am really pleased with how this is working for me so far, and I expect to get a lot of use out of it.
Sent from my iPad.
P.S. one big drawback of the keyboard is that there are no arrow keys of movement keys of any kind. I had to go back and fix a closing HTML tag, and navigating to the correct place was pretty nasty. It might be better with a web form that had scroll bars for the edit control, but this site does not.
